Name: AIG_EQ_HAZARD

Display Field: Region

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: The AIG earthquake hazard layer provides global coverage for EQzone and earthquake risk score values. EQzone is a measure of earthquake shaking intensity developed by AIG research and development that assigns a value from 0 (no hazard) to 4 (very high hazard) to any given location. EQZone's development uses a similar methodology to that of the Munich Re earthquake zone but with up-to-date source data to represent the most recent view of shaking intensity. It can be used in all instances where Munich Re zones are typically employed. Earthquake risk score is a similar measure of earthquake shaking intensity which assigns a value from 0 to 100 to any given location for a more refined view of seismic shaking. The EQZone and earthquake risk score values are calculated from the 475-year MMI value at bedrock and consider the tectonic setting of the region as well as the local site amplification. The first version of the AIG earthquake hazard layer lacks coverage for a few islands in the Pacific such as Guam, the Marshall Islands and Fiji.
