Service Description:

The Global Volcanic Hazard Index Map is based on the historical data on confirmed volcanic eruptions worldwide dating back to 1500 AD. The data is sourced from Smithsonian Institution/NCEI (NOAA) database. The Volcano risk score at any location is determined by the distance to the volcano, eruption frequency (with more weight given to the recent events), type of flow (mud/pyroclastic/lava), recorded Volcanic Eruption Index (VEI), impact area etc. The overall risk score is on a scale of 1-100 with risk category of LOW, MODERATE, HIGH, VERY HIGH, SEVERE to assist with developing strategies for risk pricing, risk transfer and setting up deductibles.
